Canadian Cassandra Brown Joins Pouākai

The Mainland Pouākai are excited to announce the signing of import forward Cassandra Brown for the 2024 Tauihi season.

The 6’2” Canadian sharpshooter has an extensive playing history that has taken her all across the globe. Her most recent campaign saw her play with the Townsville Fire of the Australian WNBL, where she shot a lights-out 45.6% on three-pointers.

“Cass is a fantastic addition to our programme and a proven performer across some of the world’s best leagues,” said Head Coach Paul Flynn. “She is an elite offensive talent and boasts length and athleticism that will be integral on the defensive side of the ball.”

“I am excited by the opportunity to work alongside Cass as we piece together a Pouākai team that the entire region will enjoy supporting this season.”

Brown has already made her mark in the Oceania region, having had an impressive 2023 season with the NBL1 South’s Mt. Gambier Pioneers. There she averaged 19.5 points while knocking down 2.7 triples per game at the tune of 38.3%. She has also represented her home country of Canada in both 5×5 and 3×3, and is presently the 5th highest-ranked 3×3 Women’s player in Canada.

“I decided to come to NZ this season as I was excited for a new experience and opportunity in the rising NZ league,” said Brown. “The condensed season was also appealing as it works perfectly with my 3×3 Canadian national team schedule. Also, I have heard many great things about Paul as well as the club!”

“Pouākai fans can expect someone who is a natural born competitor, a team player, and someone who is always going to give 100% on the floor!”

Cassandra Brown joins recent signings Mikhaela Cann, Esra McGoldrick, and Sharne Robati on the 2024 Pouākai roster. Stay tuned for more player announcements coming your way soon!
