We’re excited to announce the addition of another up-and-comer to our 2024 Mainland Pouākai squad in 20-year-old forward Vitolia Tuilave.
Tuilave is fresh off completing her freshman year at Wofford College, opting to return to New Zealand to further her career. She started in 25 of her 30 games this past season and led the Wofford Terriers in blocks with 22 on the year.
“We’re excited to welcome Vitolia to the Mainland Pouākai,” said Head Coach Paul Flynn. “Vitolia is an exciting young talent that is at the very start of her professional journey.”
“She has a strong body, positions herself well and plays off of her teammates with poise and composure. I’m looking forward to working alongside her and further developing her game.”
In 2022, Tuilave represented New Zealand at the FIBA U18 Women’s Asian Championship, averaging 4.2 points and 3.2 rebounds. She was also a development player with the Northern Kāhu during their inaugural season.
“As a young player, it was an honour to receive this opportunity to play for the Mainland Pouākai,” said Tuilave.
“I know I’ll be able to develop under the coaching staff and learn from my experienced teammates. The fans can expect high energy and a lot of fun.”
Vitolia Tuilave adds to an exciting group consisting of Esra McGoldrick, Sharne Robati, Mikhaela Cann, Cassandra Brown, McKenzie Forbes, Tara Manumaleuga, Haliegh Reinoehl, Ashlee Strawbridge, Lauren Tewhata, and Tessa Morrison. Stay tuned for more player announcements coming your way soon!
