The Mainland Pouākai have signed Australian point guard Mikhaela Cann as their first import for the 2024 Tauihi season.
Cann most recently played for the Logan Thunder of the NBL1 North, posting averages of 18.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 7.3 assists. She has been an integral part of Logan’s programme, winning the NBL1 North finals with the team in 2021.
“We are excited to welcome Mikhaela to Pouākai this season,” said Head Coach Paul Flynn. “Across her career, Mik has established a strong reputation as a leader, a fierce competitor and a versatile facilitator that drives winning habits within the team. She will do all the right things day-in and day-out to help the Pouākai compete and contend this Tauihi season.”
“Mik impacts on both sides of the basketball and will be a huge asset to the Pouākai program and wider Mainland community. She cares about the things that matter; building strong relationships and competing with integrity.”
She joins the Pouākai with multiple years of Australian WNBL experience under her belt, including having won a championship with the Townsville Fire in 2018.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to play for the Pouākai this season,” expressed Cann. “It feels like a family orientated club with a great culture, and both Caleb and Paul have welcomed myself and my three young kids right from the start. We are all excited to get over there and get to work in September.”
“On the court, I am a passionate leader that loves to push the pace and create for my teammates. I am also looking forward to working within the community and helping the next generation of ballers to become the best that they can be on and off the court.”
Mikhaela Cann joins recent signings Esra McGoldrick and Sharne Robati. Stay tuned for more player announcements coming your way soon!
