McKenzie Forbes Added To The Mix

Hailing from Folsom, California, WNBA draft pick McKenzie Forbes is the most recent addition to the Mainland Pouākai roster.

Forbes was selected 28th overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. She just completed her first season of professional basketball in Australia, winning an NBL1 South championship with the Waverley Falcons. Forbes recorded nightly averages of 13.9 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.6 three-pointers in just 23.1 minutes per game.

“McKenzie is a potent offensive threat and versatile defender that was highly sought after by multiple teams around the globe,” said Head Coach Paul Flynn. “We’re thrilled that she has chosen to join us at the Mainland Pouākai.”

“What impresses me most is her strong leadership qualities and how she has proven time and again she can lift her teams to succeed on the big stage. We cannot wait to see her represent the Pouākai and I know the entire region will love supporting McKenzie and the team this season.”

The 24-year-old wing had a decorated collegiate career, playing for the likes of California, Harvard, and USC. In 2024, Forbes achieved All Pac-12 honours and was named the Pac-12 Tournament MVP after scoring 26 points against a formidable Stanford team.

“I have heard great things about the league and the investment in making it a top league in terms of competition and player experience,” said Forbes. “I chose the Mainland Pouākai because I trust in Coach Flynn and his vision for myself and the organisation as a whole.”

“Pouākai fans can expect a versatile playmaker and someone who is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win!”

McKenzies Forbes joins a talented Pouākai roster, featuring Esra McGoldrick, Sharne Robati, Mikhaela Cann, and Cassandra Brown. Stay tuned for more player announcements coming your way soon!
