Pouākai Add Final Puzzle Piece In Abby Cubillo

Filling the fifth and final import slot, the Mainland Pouākai have strengthened their 2024 roster with the addition of Australian point guard Abby Cubillo.

“We’re excited to welcome Abby to the Mainland Pouākai as our second Australian player,” said Head Coach Paul Flynn.

Cubillo provides the Pouākai with high-level playing experience, having spent time with both the Canberra Capitals and Adelaide Lightning of the WNBL, winning 2 WNBL championships in the process.

“Abby is a dynamic playmaker that is going to add greater versatility to our game. She is high character and boasts experience beyond her years. We’re keen to get her on-court with the team as soon as possible,” added Flynn.

This past NBL1 season, she played 7 games for the Southern District Spartans, averaging 13.6 points, 3.6 assists, and shooting 35.3% from three-point land.

While Cubillo will be on the Pouākai bench for Saturday’s home game against the Northern Kāhu, she will not suit up to play due to flying in overnight. She will however be ready for the following weekend to play the Kāhu on the road in Auckland.
