Second import announced to compliment strong Kiwi core

Cierra Walker has been announced as the Mainland Pouākai 2nd import complementing the squad’s strong Kiwi core.

Walker’s work ethic showed in her senior year highlight reel. In her final season at Gonzaga University, the 5’8″ guard started every game, logging 884 total minutes and scoring a career-high 24 points.

For two consecutive seasons, she was named to the Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association 20th annual Scholar Athlete team. One of 10 players selected across the US, and the only one from the West Coast Conference, Walker received the honour following a memorable 2021/22 season. She averaged 8.9 ppg with a team-leading 169 three pointers on 42% shooting from long range. She led the team averaging 26 minutes per game.

The Oregon City, Oregon, native finished in double-figures 14 times and hit at least two 3-pointers 21 times during the Zags’ 27-7 season with a career-high eight 3-pointers on her Senior Day, Feb. 26, in an 83-62 win over Loyola Marymount.

Walker has completed her master’s degree in organisational leadership. She has a perfect 4.0 graduate GPA.

We are seeing a competitive squad emerge with a strong Kiwi core and exciting overseas influence. Our two import signings with a third import announcement next week prepare us to enter the Tauihi Aotearoa Women’s Basketball League with experience at all levels, stated Mainland Pouākai General Manager Caleb Harrison.
