CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand — It is with great excitement that we welcome American guard Mikayla Pivec to the ProcureX Mainland Pouākai for the 2026 Tauihi season!
“I’m really excited to bring Mikayla to the Pouākai,” said Head Coach Alex Stojkovic. “She is exactly the type of player who can have a huge impact on how we want to play. She is an incredibly smart, unselfish player who can organise a team, push the pace and make good decisions with the ball.”
Pivec was drafted 25th overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft to the Atlanta Dream, and has since played professionally in Spain, Puerto Rico, Turkey, Ireland and Australia.
“I chose to come play for Pouākai because I’ve had a number of friends play in this league and they have all talked about how competitive and professional this league in New Zealand is,” said Pivec.
“I also knew a number of the pieces Coach Alex and the Pouākai staff were putting together and thought that this would be a really fun group to play with. I wanted to be a part of what they were building here.”
This past season in the Australian NBL1 West, Pivec posted versatile per game averages of 17.9 points, 11.0 rebounds and 7.9 assists, earning All-NBL1 West first team honours.
“Her NBL1 season with Mandurah Magic showed just how much of an all-round impact she can have, and she was a constant triple-double threat throughout the season,” said Stojkovic. “She gives us another player who can create, rebound, facilitate and make plays for others.”
“I think Mikayla is going to be a really important piece for us, and I’m looking forward to seeing her bring that competitiveness and leadership to the team.”
“I’m a creator and point guard, and I’m excited to be surrounded by so many scoring threats and shooters,” said Pivec on her fit with the team. “My goal this season is to put my teammates in positions to be successful and do whatever it takes to help us win.”
