16 Hoops In 16 Weeks: Mission Accomplished

We are very proud to announce the success of Canterbury Regional Basketball Foundation’s (CRBF) 16 Hoops in 16 Weeks campaign which saw the instalment of 16 brand-new basketball hoops in schools throughout the Canterbury region!  The campaign was in partnership with Basketball New Zealand’s Hoops in Schools programme and not only supported the installation of new hoops but also includes free in-school coaching from Rams and Pouākai players throughout the rest of Term 4.

Rams In-Schools, led by Taylor Britt, and Pouākai Girls Got Game, led by Lauryn Hippolite, includes skills coaching as well as teaching tamariki the importance of physical activity and connecting with each other while having fun playing basketball. The CRBF received considerable support from Rams & Pouākai partner Home NZ who installed the Hoops at the schools throughout Christchurch. We would also like to thank everyone who supported the CRBF campaign via One Good Kiwi, raising funds for the project and allowing Taylor and Lauryn to support the activation of these spaces via the hoop openings and provide free coaching programmes throughout the term.

“We created One Good Kiwi with one goal in mind — to secure the futures of our rangatahi and give back to the communities in Aotearoa who need it most,” said One Good Kiwi brand lead Jane King. “When the CRBF team told us about the 16 Hoops in 16 Weeks mission, we were PUMPED to help make it happen. Now that they’ve reached their goal, we love seeing how One Good Kiwi played a part in creating a positive impact for kids in Canterbury.”

So far Rams captain Taylor Britt and Mainland Pouākai guard Lauryn Hippolite have visited eight schools for the hoop openings and spent time with the children teaching them the tricks of the trade. Taylor has also spent a day with the students of Timaru South School as part of the Rams In-Schools programme.  Both Taylor & Lauryn are looking forward to getting out to all of the schools over the term to deliver fun coaching sessions.
